Season 2011 Review
There are three things that stand out for me about this season - which has not been an easy one. The first is the unwavering commitment of players and specialist coaches to pitch up for training, improve skill sets and step onto the paddock with a desire to win. This commitment lifted us to seventh position at the end of the season. The second is a need to acknowledge that these players, and many of the coaching and support staff, are not paid to pitch up. They do it for the love of the sport, and that should be gratefully remembered by anyone involved in the game on the Coast. Australian rugby is a small community and this level of commitment does not go unnoticed. The third is an acknowledgement to all sponsors of the team this year. It is not an easy time to raise money for sport and your support has been essential for these players to progress. I trust that next year the welcome and appreciation will be warm for you.
I was particularly proud of the attitude of this years players which under difficult circumstances was exemplary. This young team started to build a culture and team identity that will, given the right support, create a high performance environment and ultimately a winning team. This was proven in our last two games with solid victories over Souths where the team delivered solid mature performances in difficult conditions. The question was asked at Souths as the team ran out "Is this your Colts team?". This demonstrates both the youth and talent in the Breakers side provided by our local clubs. And I know I will see several of this current team move forward on the pathway to greater achievements. This will however require the full support of the entire rugby community on the Gold Coast, acting in unity and pulling towards a common goal.
I wish each player and member of the premier coaching staff, that I have worked with, every success in their next season in 2012.
